Abstract: This article discusses the importance of developing critical thinking skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes. In modern education, students need not only language knowledge but also the ability to think independently, analyze information, and make decisions. The study highlights the role of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in enhancing critical thinking skills. It also examines how critical thinking improves speaking skills, decision-making, and communicative competence. The role of teachers in fostering these skills is emphasized as a key factor. студентам необходимы не только языковые знания, но и умения самостоятельно мыслить, анализировать информацию и принимать решения. В статье анализируется роль проблемно-ориентированного обучения (PBL) в развитии критического ��ышления. Также рассматривается влияние критического мышления на развитие устной речи, принятие решений и коммуникативную компетенцию. Особое внимание уделяется роли преподавателя в данном процессе. Introduction. In today’s up-to- date world rapid changes have significantly transformed people’s lifestyles especially in the fields of work and social environment, and education. Therefore, itʼs essential to equip students with the necessary skills and competencies so that they can easily adjust to the new requirements of the fast changing social, educational and work environments. Teachers have lasted to rethink the theoratical basis of student’s learning needs (Dufya ,2013) Problembased learning (PBL)was shaped in medical education during the 1960s in the purpose of enhancing critical thinking. This was formulated preparing student for 21century skills has led the language educators to embled (PBL) into language curriculum (McDonough, Crawford &Mackey; Rao,2007). PBL refers to “meaningful and experimental learning and students learn by solving problems and reflecting in their experiences” (Ansarian, Adlipour, Saber &Shafiei,2016,p.85. In PBL students can try to solve real-world problems, do research, using different resources and approaches . The Importance of Critical Thinking Skills. Critical Thinking plays a vital role in EFL classes . Here, we mentioned some factors: It

helps students to think independently , they do not depend on other’s opinion, they can answer questions with their own opinions ; It also helpful in decision making , through it students can distinguish options and they know which one is true, which one is false . especially they can choose the best option. Students are not only curbed with learning word, but they can analyze it’s meaning. It is also beneficial in speaking skills. By organizing lessons critically students try discuss the topic. It’s the teacher’s role to teach learners not to just language skills also communicative which speaking skills. According to the Richards (2006:3), communicative competence includes the following aspects of language knowledge - knowing how to use language for a range of different purposes and functions - knowing how to vary our use of language according to the setting and the participants - -knowing how to produce and understand different types of text ( narratives , reports , interviews , conversations ) Conclusions. In EFL classes teachers are responsible in fostering student’s critical thinking. In every language context, students activate well-known vocabulary. Reading, listening, speaking and writing skills help students to improve their communication. By critical thinking, students can learn independently and make their own decisions in different tasks.
