Abstract. Speaking fluency is major aspect of speaking skills, which ensures coherence and confidence in expressing English language learners’ speaking ability. The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years has significantly transformed the landscape of language teaching and learning. Among the emerging technologies, ChatGPT, an advanced generative AI model, has gained global attention for its capacity to simulate human-like conversation and provide interactive language practice. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of ChatGPT in improving speaking fluency among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. Speaking fluency is analyzed through measures such as speed, accurancy, pausing patterns, vocabulary usage, and confidence. The study employs a mixed-methods design involving pre- and post-texts, classroom observations, and learner perception surveys. Findings reveal that ChatGPT significantly enhances learners’ fluency, reduce speaking anxiety, and increases motivation to engage in oral communication. Беглость речи является важным аспектом речевых навыков, обеспечивающим связность и уверенность в выражении мыслей у изучающих английский язык. Быстрое развитие искусственного интеллекта (ИИ) в последние годы существенно преобразовало сферу обучения и преподавания языков. Среди новых технологий ChatGPT — передовая генеративная модель ИИ — привлекла внимание во всём мире благодаря своей способности имитировать диалоги, близкие к человеческим, и предоставлять интерактивную языковую практику. Цель данного исследования — изучить эффективность использования ChatGPT в повышении беглости речи у изучающих английский язык как иностранный (EFL). Беглость речи анализируется с помощью таких показателей, как скорость речи, точность, паузационные характеристики, использование словарного запаса и уверенность. В исследовании применяется смешанный метод, включающий предварительное и итоговое тестирование, наблюдение за учебным процессом и анкетирование обучающихся. Результаты показывают, что использование ChatGPT значительно повышает беглость речи обучающихся, снижает уровень речевой тревожности и усиливает мотивацию к участию в устной коммуникации. Introduction. Speaking fluency is a main component of communicative competence and one of the most challenging skills for EFL learners to learn. In many educational factors, including Central Asia, learners have limited exposure to real-life English-speaking environments. As a result, they struggle with hesitation, slow speech rate, imprecise grammar usage, and lack of confidence. The emergence of generative AI tools, particularly ChatGPT, suggest new opportunities in language learning. ChatGPT can pretend natural conversation, generate human-like responses, provide immedient correction, model accurate pronunciation (via integration with speech tools), and allow immence practice. Unlike traditional classroom setups where speaking time may be limited, ChatGPT enables learners to practice anytime and without fear of decision. One area that can vastly benefit from AI is English language learning, especially in improving students’ speaking skills. Many secondary school students face obstacles in fluency and pronunciation in English due to from limited exposure and low confidence . This challenge

becomes more apparent when students lack interest, motivation, and confidence to actively use the language, marking it difficult for teacher to involve them in speaking activities. To overcome this issue, AI such as Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT) is gaining attention as an innovative language teaching tool. Since its launch, ChatGPT has grown rapidly with 1 million users in five days and reaching 300 million weekly active users by December 2024, sending more than 1 billion messages daily, reflecting its integration into personal and professional life (Burmagina, 2025). ChatGPT offers various features such as interactive training and the provision of meaningful language input, which canmaking it difficult for teachers to engage them in speaking activities (Ghafar, 2023). The Use of AI in Education Among the various AI tools employed in educational contexts, ChatGPT has emerged as a widely recognised platform. A study by Yang et al. (2024) found that ChatGPT is used extensively due to its ability to offer instant feedback, raise students’ language awareness, and create more engaging and interactive learning environments. The study also revealed that students use ChatGPT to simulate conversations, receive immediate corrections, and improve their language performance through guided speaking practice. ChatGPT and Language Learning The use of ChatGPT in language learning has become an increasingly important topic of research. A study by Xiao and Zhi (2023) explored the experiences and perceptions of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students regarding the use of ChatGPT in completing language-related tasks. The findings suggest that ChatGPT functions as a beneficial learning associate, helping students to complete assignment by providing immediate feedback and a personalised learning experience. Also, in a study involving foreign language learners , found that ChatGPT had a positive impact on students’ learning experiences, particularly in writing, grammar, and vocabulary possession. Students also reported increased motivation and involvement when using ChatGPT in a variety of learning activities. In the context of speaking skills, ChatGPT has also displayed potential to improve students' pronunciation, fluency, and overall speaking performance. Students used ChatGPT as an interactive platform to simulate conversations, receive real-time feedback, and correct language errors during speaking tasks. Xiao and Zhi (2023) further observed that students critically evaluated the quality of ChatGPT’s responses and demonstrated the ability to adjust their prompts to optimise learning outcomes. However, noted that while ChatGPT showed clear benefits in writing-related tasks, its impact on

speaking skills was more limited. These mixed findings suggest a need for further research to thoroughly examine ChatGPT’s effectiveness in supporting various aspects of speaking skill development. The Impact of AI on Speaking Skills AI functions as a learning tool that boost fluency, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and situational comprehension. AI technologies provide structured and interactive practice that promote language development. Platforms such as ChatGPT, Duolingo, UNIPUS AIGC, and iTEST offer real-time feedback, helping learners immediately correct their errors. Qiao and Zhao (2023) confirm that AI-enhanced learning significantly boosts fluency and pronunciation accuracy among EFL learners. Furthermore, AI supports independent learning by allowing students to access practice and conversation model without relying entirely on the teacher. Recent Empirical Studies on AI in Language Teaching The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology into the field of education has grown significantly, with notable effects particularly in teaching and learning practices. Within the context of language education, the program of AI as a digital instructional tool has clarified its potential in improving language acquisition. A promoting body of practical research has been managed to evaluate the use of AI tools, such as ChatGPT, in language learning. Overall, these studies suggest that AI technologies such as ChatGPT hold considerable promise for enhancing students’ speaking proficiency and fluency. However, further research is required particularly within the Malaysian context and at the secondary and primary school levels. As noted by Degni (2024), existing research has largely focused on higher education, while studies on the application of AI in lower educational levels remain limited. Therefore, more comprehensive research extensive various educational settings is essential to concluding the most effective uses of AI and to explore its potential across different learning contexts within the national education system. The Role of AI in Language Learning AI plays a vital role in personalizing learning experiences and offering motivational and interactive models. Studies show that AI helps students reduce speaking anxiety, build confidence, and provides a more flexible learning environment. Mittal et al. (2024) support this by stating that AI can adapt task difficulty to suit individual learner abilities, making the learning process more tailored. Similarly, Omar et al. (2024) found that ChatGPT adjusts dialogues to different levels of difficulty, allowing students to progressively build confidence in speaking. AI also

encourange learning strategy management, particularly for autonomous learners who can adjust their learning techniques through AI tools. Conclusion. This research exposes that AI, especially ChatGPT, holds significant potential in enhancing English speaking skills by prezenting personalized learning experiences, interactive training, and instant feedback. AI step up the acquisition of fluency, pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary while helping students defeat speaking anxiety. Through, challenges such as learner dependency, AI bias, and data privacy concerns must be considered. Hence, this study perspective that AI in language learning be integrated with traditional pedagogical approaches to ensure a balanced and effective learning process. In addition, the development of policies and ethical guidelines should be prioritized to role AI use responsibly in education.Future research should evaluate the long-term effectiveness of AI in language learning and identify the best strategies to diminish the challenges it presents. While AI tools like ChatGPT have proven innovative, they should be used in a controlled and complementary manner to essure their benefits openly support students in mastering English-speaking skills.
